More than a Business: A Social Movement for Good
Meta Empowerment’s vision is simple: Vulnerable individuals are empowered to achieve their potential with the support of empowered people surrounding them. It’s Meta Empowerment’s mission to create a broad ripple effect in helping individuals and groups find their inner-strengths so that they can support less privileged others to find power to thrive. Meta Empowerment’s day-to-day operational and service delivery decisions are guided by a very simple but powerful philosophy and set of values.
Every interaction we have is an opportunity to have positive impacts on our surrounds and beyond.
This is something that Meta Empowerment believes can, and should, be applied in all domains of existence, for our existence is not separate from our surrounds. It’s the interactions that we choose to have that characterise the meaning of our existence.
Person
Every person has an innate desire to feel welcome and worthy. The circumstances surrounding an individual’s existence should never determine that they be deprived of such. Humanity is an unconditional basic human right. This goes for how we treat those around us and ourselves.
Community
We are a part of our communities, and they are a part of us. Whilst community connectedness has different meanings to individuals, groups and cultures, Meta Empowerment is founded on the premise that there is great power that comes from community bonds. When we lose our way, it’s the shared values, beliefs, and objectives of a community that can guide us until we find our bearings again. A person’s community also deserves unconditional respect.
Environment
Humans are not superior beings entitled to selfishly take from the earth without gratitude and reciprocity. We coexist with nature and all its power and vulnerability. Like any good housemate, we’re responsible for contributing to a mutually beneficial relationship. Earth’s wellbeing deserves to be nurtured, just as it does for us.
The Heart & Soul Behind M.E.
It’s me, Felicity Hicks!
“See the good in everything” is what’s written on my most favourite old daggy t-shirt. A sentiment that’s small, yet resonates in a big way. You might find that I’m possibly the happiest, most optimistic, and non-judgmental person in the world. Perhaps by naming me Felicity, which means happiness, my folks created a self-fulfilling prophesy! And now my geeky distractible brain wants to talk about nature versus nurture. (I won’t do that to you though.)
Yes, my kids laugh at me for being a nerd but I’m just extremely curious about human nature. Every time a new concepts presents itself, it’s like a shiny dangling object waiting to be explored. My curiosity has led me to complete a Diploma of Counselling and a Bachelor of Social Science specialising in Psychology. I’m also on the cusp of completing the Bachelor of Psychology with Honours. However, the extent of nerdiness I possess is paralleled by my care and desire to help others. Which is probably why I’m a serial community volunteer.
If I’m not working, studying, Mumming, or attending some kind of committee meeting, then I’m reenergising in nature and spending quality time with the people and animals I love. If ever I’m getting grouchy, for goodness sakes send me out camping or dancing! (Good food and wine are also a very acceptable options.)
Well, that’s enough sharing on my part. Now, let’s hear from you. I can’t wait to meet you and explore how we can collaborate together to improve your corner of the world.
